Preschool & Kindergarten Academics

Three Year Old Kindergarten

The curriculum is composed of the total program of the school, whether it be the academics, physical education, music, Biblical teaching, or extracurricular events.  All phases of the curriculum are directed to assist in the ultimate development of the child.

In the fall of 2007, Faith Baptist School began a brand new educational program for three-year-old children.  Feedback from our school families and friends showed a need for a warm, nurturing environment where children were given the opportunity to learn, and their natural curiosities were guided in a constructive manner.

Each day of Pre-school at Faith Baptist will begin with the pledge of the American flag and a Bible story.  Children will learn stories of Jesus and some of the lessons He taught through parables.

The class will then begin learning their reading and writing skills.  The children will be taught to sound out and write the letters of the alphabet, to identify and pronounce the short vowels, and to blend consonants with short vowels.  At the end of their first year, many of the children are able to write their name and read one vowel words.

After a little snack and recess time, the children will finish their morning with math instruction.  The children will be taught to count and write to 50, to learn the values of numbers 1 – 10, and to add two numbers together.

As the morning comes to a close, the children wash up and prepare for lunch.  If the children use the school catering program, their lunch is hand delivered to their classroom.

After lunch the children have interactive activities teaching them principles of science, social studies, and art.

As the afternoon approaches, the children’s beds will be prepared for them, and their teachers will read a heart warming children’s story before their nap.  To enable the teachers to work effectively with the children, it is very important that each child is potty trained by the beginning of the school year.

Four Year Old Kindergarten

The four year old kindergarten program is not a day care program, but rather the foundation for our accelerated curriculum.  This program offers pre-kindergarten training in phonics, manuscript writing, spelling, arithmetic, Bible, art, and music.  We teach the fundamentals of reading to every child, and many children are able to read hundreds of one- and two-vowel words by the end of their first year in school.

Five Year Old Kindergarten

Our five year old kindergarten program is established on a traditional philosophy of achievement and conduct.  It is this concept that enables our children to excel, unlike many other kindergarten students, and to read at the second-, third-, and fourth-grade levels.

Phonics

The intensive phonics program is the key to the success of our  reading program.

Reading

All children learn to read before they are passed to first grade.  Most read at the second-grade level.

Writing

Manuscript writing is taught to all children, and they begin composing their own stories.

Spelling

All children learn to spell hundreds of words phonetically.

Arithmetic

Both the meaning and the writing of numbers are taught.  All children must write their numbers from 1 – 100, and many children can write from 1 – 200.  Children also learn hundreds of addition and subtraction combinations.

Speech

All children learn how to walk, how to stand, and how to speak in front of their peers.

Bible

Bible verses, stories, and songs help build a desire in each child to know God personally.  We teach lessons from the Bible and apply them to scenarios that children face on a daily basis.  It is our Bible curriculum that forms the foundation of our character training.

Computer

Enhanced learning opportunities await every child through each classroom’s computer.

Art

Kindergarten art provides time for children to express their creativity and to develop their fine motor skills while working together on crafts and art projects.

Music

Classical children’s songs are taught to the children with finger play.
